We always used to joke about the difference between the Marines and Special Forces was that when ordered to take a hill, the Marines would attack charging straight up into the enemy fire, whereas the Special Forces would try to figure out a way around the hill or take it from behind, or failing that call in an air strike !
and @Linguist as well.I recall reading about a former Secretary of Defense talking about the differences between the Armed Services.“When I told the Air Force to ‘secure the building’, they signed a one-year lease with option to renew. The Navy sent a petty officer around to make sure all the doors were locked. The Army strung barbed wire around the building and set up a machine gun nest. The Marines blew in the front door, tossed in a couple grenades, and sent a squad charging in.”
