I suppose, when stuck in a loop, the PC appears to be locked up, or in a freeze.Yes, the last language I learned was Pascal. I heard about C shortly before I graduated, though my major wasn’t Comp. Sci.
Laughing at all the comments. we sure are a bunch of old farts in here!
I too fondly remember Basic. I also liked V-Basic, it allowed one to add a GUI. I hate LabView, though it pays a lot of my bills these days. I touch on the new app/web languages as little as I possibly can – leave that for the youngsters.
I learned Pascal and Fortran in college. I didn’t get to apply them so it didn’t take long to completely forget them. I remember the accounting students all had to learn Cobol and complained about it a lot. Now, decades later, I’m an accountant with nary a trace of Cobol to be found on the job.
FORTRAN was my first programing language, with a bit of WAT5 (I think that’s how it is spelled) Basic in several varieties came next. But I haven’t programed since Q Basic when my now 27 year old was a preschooler. He watched what I did and learned to program before he was in kindergarten. He’s a Code Monkey now and makes more money than his father, who is an attorney.
I loved BASIC but my hubby programed in FORTRAN until about 2 years ago when he changed jobs, now it’s just Fortran but it’s still activly in use and updated….

That’s Pascal… why is that language even in his head?

Not that I recognized it, but I loved Pascal 25 years ago in university. Remember, Jason is a geek.

I always liked BASIC. Back then I actually understood computers! Not that I could afford one…

Where I work we still have some legacy programs written in Pascal.

APL – my favorite since it’s the start of my name – not to mention the indecipherable symbols.

I don’t know Pascal, but I can see that starting with the number 1 and adding 1 to it until it becomes less than one would go on forever.

Not forever. It will eventually overflow and error out. Much like his intake of frozen treat.

I’ve seen Jason use C before.
Let’s see, how does that go, Ada before Pascal except after C …

if he was drinking iced coffee, would the language be Java?

I have written hundreds of thousands of lines of Pascal for work. Most of it pre-1995. Nothing lately, we switched to C++.
FYI: The i:=i+1; line is unnecessary, I would delete it.

How about Autocoder for the IBM 7074? That’s what I did, but then I’m older’n dirt.

And I thought regular brain freeze is bad. Ouch!

Well, when the integer maxes out, it will become negative…

I didn’t get further than Basic on a Trash-80 but it snagged me a wonderful husband so I’m not complaining.
