Thank goodness we don’t have our daily dose of dog slobber in the face!

Dog owners: Yes, yes, yes, I have heard the old wives’ tales about the alleged health benefits of dog saliva – but I don’t buy it – dogs lick each others’ butts before they lick your face.

In general: Clovia has been out of town for weeks now, apparently to demonstrate just how hapless and helpless Slim is. When Clovia is in town, all we get from her are fat jokes against Slim.

I’ve said it before – Slim needs to find a new comic strip!

Jim Scancarelli: I’m tired of Slim being the forever fall guy, the guy who can’t do anything right – or, perhaps more accurately, the guy who can’t please anybody.

This dog story line is about as horrible as the old comics’ retirement home was fantastic.

I know what I want to say, but dare I say it? Here goes:

    Jim, you’re ruining this strip!

Come on, folks give Jim a bread. After all, it’s the dog days of summer. What’s more fitting than a dog story?

Ya even a guy talking to a plant is more interesting than this story. When will Slim remember to go to work again?

I’ll have t agree with cheapskate0 to a certain extent. I too am tired of Slim always being the fall guy and portrayed as dumber than a stone. Being portrayed as perhaps a little slow is not the same as appearing perpetually brain dead. Yes, I’d like to see Slim get a break in this strip.

I missed 30 years of this strip after moving to a different state. Gretchen was just a toddler, and there was a boy whose mother abandoned him. Where is he now? I am happy to have found this strip again and to see Gretchen grown up. I don’t recall Slim so helpless though.

I too really like this comic. However, I would be happy to have Slim featured a bit less. The side characters of this story arc are much more interesting… Dr.Herb, Slim’s daughter, and even (gasp) Clovis are generally the high points in this particular story. Slim seems (and is) dull in comparison. I also hope that my favorite character,, Joel, returns soon!
