Didn’t Janeway only have one mission she was incapable of doing right due to being sidetracked every time? I think that counts as worst Starfleet captain ever.
I’ll probably get chased off here, but Voyager is my favorite. It is seriously underrated. Admittedly, I haven’t seen many Enterprise or Ds9, but still. Didn’t really like Janeway that much though.
I liked Voyager, every week I hoped Janeway would be taken by some alien creature and eggs would be planted in her body and the the larva would eat her flesh.
There’s no favorite Star Trek series for me. They were all good in their own way. So were the movies … except Into Darkness. The worst movie in the franchise. Matter of fact, I just finished watching STIV this morning.
I liked all the series, each had its own merits. But my 3 favorite episodes of all of them combined, are all from the original series. “Mirror, Mirror” and “Space Seed” where Ricardo Montalban originated the role of Khan, and “Day of the Dove” where Michael Ansara originated Kang.
There was a “Voyager” where Janeway was confronted by two crew members who had disobeyed her direct order. If that had happened with Sisko, he’d’ve done a slow burn and busted them down to the lowest rank. Kirk would’ve chewed them out then taken them out for a beer. Picard would’ve had them scrubbing the outside of the ship with a toothbrush, maybe without spacesuits.
Having watched all of them, and being there for the first airing of TOS, I agree all have merits, even Enterprise. Scott “Oh Boy!” Bakula did a pretty good job with the early days. Still if you watch TOS and consider it was the beginning seeds of the canon, despite it’s production errors, was just about the best. I am currently working my way through all of the DS9 starting from the beginning, and the portrayal of Commander Sisko is very well done. And the chemistry of Odo and Quark is marvelous.
Voyager was more like TOS than any of ther others, DS9 had the most back story. You had to keep watching DS9 to understand the interactions between the characters.
However with the exception of Enterprise they all had their good points. Enterprise would have been better, if it was outside the Trek Universe – like Andromeda. Its main problem was the advances in technology, meant it could not seem advanced, and keep within the TOS technology.
The storylines made sense until you missed a couple shows. At that point it’s time to write it off and find something else to watch. That’s one of my biggest complaints about many of the new shows, they assume you either don’t have a life or that they are a priority.

DS9 was the best, no question. Sisko was the best of all the Captains, Janeway was the worst.

Captain Sisko was my favorite captain. Especially at times when Avery Brooks seemed to be channeling Hawk from Spenser For Hire when he was angry!

I like Voyager. Enjoyed the characters a lot. I didn’t watch DS9 due to a scheduling conflict (no recording capabilities).

That has something to do with it, too, Roy.

Janeway broke down and cried.
So much for strong female characters.

Can we please have two sets of comments on Working Daze – one for the Trekkies and one for the rest of us ;-) (The dog in the corner is too cute!)

Indeed. B5 truly was excellent. My favorite sci-fi series of all time is Stargate SG-1.

I was reading one of the latter ST books and even there a character called Janeway as “Wrongway”.

I liked NG the best, but that’s what I grew up with. My next favorite was Voyager… but I think Seven helped that one. ;-)
