Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for August 27, 2013
Transcript:
Rat: Hey there, Pig. Check it out... Through the miracle of comics, I've been hanging out with George "I cannot tell a lie" Washington... we've been hitting the bars. Pig: How's it going? Woman: Nice to meet you, George. George Washington: You have a very large rear. Rat: Not that well. George Washington: Maybe I shouldn't say anything at all. Pig: Do not throw martinis on the father of our country!

Now if only there was an amendment banning PBS.

And he has no mouth?
Sherlock Watson about 11 years ago
It’s worth noting that George wasn’t actually elected; he was appointed by congress.

Stephan has put one of his detractors into the strip!

Incidentally, George W. was a direct descendant of King Edward III, making George a very distant cousin to King George III.

Trying to defuse the criticisms by hiding behind an old powdered wig, ehh, Cartoon-Boy? Well, what if GW really cannot tell a lie? Where does that leave you? (I suspect this is all a set-up by Rat, who has hired an actor to portray GW and to get Pastis’s goat. Or Goat.)

Got this in my email this morning, with a ridiculous message trying to suggest that taking away free daily emails, and replacing it with a pro account free for six months and then paid-for, is a GOOD thing. Evidently GoComics think they’re readers are idiots. Very, very disappointed.

“And he has no mouth?”.And he must scream.
doublepaw about 11 years ago
Obviously George couldn’t work for Fox News.
jmartin1955 about 11 years ago
Two luminaries on the same page – awesome. Self depreciating humor is often the best. Very funny.

The strip may suck, but at least it’s honest.

The G Washington book I mentioned yesterday: “His Excellency George Washington” by Joseph J Ellis. Very good read: Washington the man.
hariseldon59 about 11 years ago
Now that’s funny!
corzak about 11 years ago
It’s traditional to think of Washington as a great general, who disliked politics. The truth is that he was a very bad general, but an extremely skilled politician.
rqs1123 about 11 years ago
Make George read Arlo and Janis and he will change his mind.
DaLaffinman about 11 years ago
So what does George know? Aside from being dead for hundreds of years, he wasn’t known for his humor. And puerile Pastis puns are more often funny than some other ENTIRE comic strips.

“PBS is okay but why do we pay for it?”If you don’t want to pay for it then don’t donate.
fogey about 11 years ago
George Washington is famous for not having a sense of humor – ask Gouverneur Morris.

Isn’t the cherry tree story a myth?

Your belabored puns make me smile.
junemmoffatt about 11 years ago
There’s a small but important difference between “not a lie” and “truth”.
Sherlock Watson about 11 years ago
Okay, I was mistaken about George, but at least I’m not as confused as some of the posters here about PBS and PB4S.
Enoki about 11 years ago
While he’s not the least talented cartoonist I’ve seen, his puns are so bad they could be used as an alternative to waterboarding and the death penality.
Number Three about 11 years ago
It gets worse and worse for poor Stephan.
LOL xxx
