There’s plenty of reasons Canada is greatness: Rush, Anvil, Triumph, April Wine, Max Webster/Kim Mitchell, Annihilator, Red Rider/Tom Cochrane, Helix, Coney Hatch, BTO, Honeymoon Suite, Saga, Loverboy, Aldo Nova, etc. Oh, and did I mention Rush? :)

" free health care" ! Yeah right, we pay for our healthcare with every transaction, then get in long lines for crappy service. When our VIP’s get sick, they go directly to America to get timely service. I have been a Dr. here for 27 years, we can only brag about our healthcare to Cuba and North Korea.

When I type “crackhead mayor” into the Google toolbar it autocompletes with “Toronto”.

    That’s interesting.

I remember one interrogation at the border when the Indian-Canadian agent asked us, “Why do you want to come into my country?” “To spend money,” we replied. “Do you have any guns?” “Of course we do.” Gasp! “You have a gun in the car?!” “Not in the car, in our home, where we have it to protect ourselves from bad people.” “Oh, dear!” “May we enter Canada now, Ma’am?” “Uh, all right.”

Mr. Conley,For the last 7+ years my husband and I have had a cutout on our refrigerator from your comic strip Get Fuzzy that shows Satchel & Bucky with their faces showing signs of horror and shock & disbelief. We laughed that it was us in response to raising three teenage daughters. For my husbands birthday I would love to have you autograph that frame and just say something like “Hang in there”. How can I get that to happen. It would be so funny-now that the daughters are adults, the drama doesn’t stop!!

How soon we forget. in September, 2001, the great people of Newfoundland and Labrador, in the city of Gander, hosted thousands of foreign friends when airplanes from around the world had to land there. For up to 2 weeks, the people of this fine – small – Canadian city cared for the stranded passengers. I live on the west coast of Canada, and take huge pride in how they made all Canadians look good. Truly, they are the real Canadians. We should all aspire to that level of caring and concern for people in trouble.

It has been said here that Canada has many advantages. It has been said here that Canada has many good points. However, until Canadians issue a written apology for Nickleback, I’m not buying any of it.

Being a subject and not a citizen? Having the queen of another country on your money? Having that other country write your constitution? No Bill of Rights? Having to come to the U.S. to get really famous? Having to spell British? No thanks.

On the other hand, the tiger sherbet (orange and licorice) in B.C. is pretty tasty, as is the star of “Continuum”, the best scifi since “Caprica”. But if their national symbol is a maple leaf, why is the first word of their national anthem “Oak”? [wink]
