Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for August 14, 2013

I have a feeling that is a sisterly term of endearment that Phoebe could only apply to Florence at her peril… :-)

The art in the 1st panel is amazing! Also just how do unicorns hug? And is Dakota going to finally get a unicorn of her own? Also if she is lining or misunderstood about LSH that just ruins the nice bonding moment. So I hope things work out for them.

That’s some real character development from Marigold, admitting that she’s envious of something other than her own reflection. I really love Marigold! She reminds me a lot of Llewellyn.

They can nibble each others withers. They can also squeeze their necks together or take turns hugging each other by clamping the neck of one between the head and neck of the other. They could mount and hug with the forelegs, but that behavior is not suitable for a family strip.

Timber’s Guide: How to Hug Your Horse (or unicorn):1. Wrap both arms around his magnificent neck and place his head on your shoulder. If you are short and your horse is tall you may need to stand on a mounting block.2. Bury your fingers in his silky mane and press your cheek against his satin hide.3. Use your fingers to vigorously massage his neck at the root of his mane. There is no need to be to gentle here, the harder you rub, the better he will like it.4. Squeeze him tightly and hold until your arms ache. Some horses may return your hug by squeezing your shoulder between his head and neck.

Is good to see Marigold took the notice… very good?

I’m sure Marigold means “Stupidface” in the best possible way.

Another superior attribute of upright bipedalism.It make hugging easy.

Now that I think about it, her nostrils ARE kind of unfortunate. lol.

So, is it going to turn out that the reason LSH’s SH can allow him to date Florence is because she is a unicorn inferior in character and appearance to, for instance, Marigold?? Oh dear!

I don’t think they will hug.

No unicorn is ugly – they wouldn’t allow it. Marigold just doesn’t know what she’s missing.

@Dogday88 – i don’t think appearance and character is the issue.. i think it is more that Marigold is just too Vain to date lord splended humility. vanity and humility are effectively complete opposites, and both MHN and LSH take their respective sides to extremes. marigold is so vain she gets enraptured by her own reflection, in much the same was was narcissus in the greek mythology, while Lord Splended Humility is so humble he refuses to even show himself or talk to anyone in order to avoid failing to be humble. Florence is likely much less vain than Marigold is, and thus would be able to relate to LSH on a much deeper level.

Ahhh Florence is totally me as a unicorn! Frizzy hair, glasses..
