I first heard this from my uncle in about 1961. The good ones are timeless.

1 – The cat doesn’t hate you, Jimbo, it hates the bird on your hat. Or

2 – The cat hates you Jimbo, because when you’re home Rose pays more attention to you than she does to her.

I about die laughing every time I read this story. It’s one of the funniest things I ever read.

The problem is not with the cat…

Why would a cat react to a bird with animosity? I’d think the cat would react by going into ‘hunting mode’, and trying to leap up to catch the flying food – but inadvertently catching the hat, instead.

Better check your hat, Jimbo.
