We’ve all seen the Peter Principle abused. I had a supervisor once who I thought was okay AS a supervisor. Not great, but fair, and easy to work for. Then he was promoted to manager, and it was Jekyll and Hyde time. He became a total jerk. Zero people skills, but that was the least of it. His first official act was to take a Hawaiin vacation with the woman from HR who got him the promotion. Only after he came back did he bother to see about hiring a replacement for his old position- and what a loser he found! Then he set about hiring unqualified friends for other managerial positions. And when someone dared to whisper one word of complaint to a co-worker it got back to him, and he called the entire department together to scream at us all.
I had a District Manager blow up at me, in front of everyone, when I told him I would not be working Thanksgiving Day, a stat holiday. I was the only one teaching a particular adult course, knew the majority of the students wouldn’t attend, and had already checked the calendar to ensure by going one extra week, we would still finish on time. I gave him all that info. His blow up made him look bad. He really did turn purple. I still did things my way (ADM was on my side and agreed to do the sensible thing and not tell the DM of any scheduling changes). That was about 15 years ago. Different employer now. Recent lateral move. Liking it. Partly because it returned me to a previous team. I am BACK! among my old team, old floor with all the nerds, geeks & fellow crazies. .As to Jay. Will anyone really listen to him?
It woyld really be great if GoComics would stop trying to load their mobile version when I come online. Sure I use a smartphone but that diesnt mean I want the mobile version. I prefer the desktop version. Despite the squinting..I just did something geeky and wanted to share. I just printed a comic strip from my phone using an ePrint app. My printer has wireless & I printed wirelessly! Way cool!

Yeah, they’ll be real jealous. Right up to the time when they tell him why Rita did it.

How could Jay have worked for Rita for so long… and still be so naive?
