Man: Want something at Mr. GOWER'S before heading home?
Aunt Fritzi: DINNER...MOVIE...AND A MALTED?! It's SILLY, but having a MALTED at the DINER makes me feel YOUNG!
Man: Being SPECTACULAR is far better than being YOUNG.
Yes. One diner is generally south of Lafayette, LA. Wait staff uniforms based on Melâs Diner. Stuff on the walls generally early 1960âs. Photo of Elvis when he was being process in the US Army.
I remember getting a malted at the drug store, not the diner. My paradigm had me thinking Gower Drugs until diner was mentioned, then I had to go back and read again.
The retro diners you speak of are basically fun tourist traps. Reals 1950s malt shops were often located near high schools offering an alternative to the school lunchroom even having cigarette vending machines (there were no surgeon general warnings or enforced laws against minors smoking then) and jukeboxes with the latest top-40 hits and room to dance.
OK, nobody commented on the look Fritziâs giving Phil in the last panel? She may have already given herself mentally and emotionally to him, but he just totally made her melt there.

Reminds me of the line from Seinfeldâ âTheyâre real, and theyâre spectacular!â

Where I live, we call them malts, not malteds.

Fritzi looks good in frame one, but definitely unspectacular in frame 3. Better brush up your profiles, Guy.
