    marvee: Even back in the ’40s, some avoided the grammatical masculine. The original (first line) quote, said “he” but Penny was ahead of her time, as well as knowing good grammar, and the realities of waiting. Back then, only Gasoline Alley aged, otherwise she would be a great grandmother by now.
