We buy the chintziest, cheapest, most pathetic candy we can find, specifically to give to the ones who are clearly much too old for the holiday and also clearly not making a serious effort with the costume. This year it was Jolly Rancher suckers, but if the stores sold bags of individually wrapped Tic-Tacs, we’d give the teens one of those.

The legitimate trick-or-treaters — kids in the appropriate age range who appear to have taken the whole costume thing seriously — get a candy bar.

Halloween isn’t a “holiday” anyway. It’s the most unholy day of the year.

Nate could still make this work. Every time the bag fills while he’s trick or treating, he could eat everything inside then keep on going. Mates obviously not going to stop. Dad is missing logic here.

I love Nate today. I so used a pillow case (kingsize) and was able to fill it up about 3 times. It’s called hitting multiple neighborhoods. Oh the good ole days! Yes, I agree Thanksgiving is better.

Actually, Oct 31 is All Hallow’s Eve, which gravitated into Halloween. November 1 is All Saint’s Day.

We love Halloween. It is a fun time to let loose and get away with things/actions not normally expected. Some teens are getting way too old to be out, especially not in costume. I’m with Jonadab who said give the “too old” the crappy candy. We thought about having a bowl of candy bars on top with a layer of small rocks underneath & digging down for the rocks when the lazy teenagers come calling. When you throw it in their bag, they never know the difference.

Don’t sweat it, kid—just fold up the pillowcase very tightly and hide it under your hat.

All Saints Day is when it is to replace All Hallow’s Eve, the night the Druids claimed that the entities of the spirit world could cross over. Just like all Christian holy days are replacements for pagan celebrations.

That is not even CLOSE to a “reasonable” size! Every year, I have to bring an extra bag when I go trick-or-treating.

As promised, Nate is a cowboy for Halloween.
