???If that were an avocado tree . . . well, no; they have to be picked. Some value in the leaves?

Why would he object to,someone taking the dead leaves? Phil can live next door to me and my six large oaks.

Wow, this makes nooooo sense! Yeah, in leaf raking country he would be sending Phil a fruit basket and his first born. If the slide were the other way, dumping the leaves on Ken while he sat in his lawn chair it would track, but this, as is? seems like a fail. Even If the joke is Ken is looking to market it, he wouldn’t be using the derogatory quotes. If I’m missing something, please help me out?

The jagged lines coming from the dialog balloon indicate that the sound is coming from the phone. The guy in the chair is Phil, and he’s invented the slide to dump the leaves in his neighbor Ken’s yard.

PocosDad hit it on the head. I couldn’t make sense out of it either, thinking that was Ken sitting in the chaise, talking to Phil. But it’s actually Ken’s yard getting the leaves from Phil’s trees.

PocosDad definitely has it. But at the typical resolution of comic strips, it’s hard to distinguish these two types of balloons.

I’ve thought of that myself. In my case, all the trees are in a wooded area beside us – it’s a never ending task to clean up buds, twigs, cotton (they are cottonwoods) and now leaves. Still, it means we have complete privacy on one side of the property.

Ken – you don’t need to say anything. Either he wants the leaves or he’ll figure it out eventually.

My brother had to explain this one to me. The call is coming from his neighbor. Makes sense now.
