Yes indeed, she was real. Our governor at the time, Jim Hogg, had a twisted sense of humor, it seems. Ms. Hogg was very well respected as a philanthropist and strong supporter of the arts. Her home and gardens are breathtaking and a tour worth taking, especially in the spring, when the azaleas are in full bloom. :)
