People this has already happened THREE times…… Mr peirce is running out of material

Sorry to nitpick, but as a math teacher this is kinda bothersome. How does a simple pop quiz have enough questions to provide for a 1 percent difference in scores? Multiple choice would require 100+ questions, so it’s clearly open-ended. Even if I were to give my kids 10 whole problems, with partial credit as little as 1/4 of a point for each, that’s still a minimum difference of 2.5%. Nonetheless, were I willing to give an open-ended quiz with a “resolution” of just one point, the time investment to grade them would be unbearable (My last test was out of 60, in 1/2 point increments, and it took over 9 hours in all for just 71 students).

Perhaps I’m overthinking this, having just survived the obstacle course of semester grades… or perhaps Mrs. Godfrey is truly as diabolical as Nate would have us believe, with the obsessive tenacity to invest whatever it takes to make her kids’ lives miserable.
