I knew a 40 year old virgin. Not unlike the movie.

They’d be GREAT for each other! At least from the stand-point of the storyline. Think of all the issues to work through on both sides!

Jeff has met Mel but RR has not. This week’s strips really erased the line between Jeff and his alter ego. Since I don’t like either one, I hope we’re done with this story line for a while — like 2022.

Depending on your browser, the browser refresh might in fact repeat the last operation, which would be the posting of the comment. Unfortunately, I haven’t kept track on which browsers do that.

It really bugs me how quickly most comic artists marry off their characters, but especially Doonesbury. What’s the deal marrying Alex while still in her early 20s? Nobody of her demographic does that anymore!

The reason I asked that question should be quite obvious; he is completely clueless around women. Granted most men are, but they try to make up for the cluelessness with humour or by being a decent person. He doesn’t even do that.

@roadsider “Nobody of (Alex’s) demographic does that any more!”

Yes, they do! One couple I know got married the day after they both graduated from the Naval Academy. Another young pair got married right after his graduation from college and his starting his shiny new job with a major financial institution. I know quite well that this is not exactly the norm, as my daughter and her 20-something friends would attest, but it’s not extinct, either!

About that duplication issue: my method is to “submit” a comment, hit “Refresh comments,” notice the duplication, and scoot off to another strip. When I return to Doonesbury, I find the duplicate gone. And sometimes I do all that as quickly as I can, just to see if I can beat the removal of the dupe. Hasn’t happened yet!

I didn’t think Jeff and Mel knew each other that well. I know they bumped into each other on a flight, didn’t remember they had even exchanged names.

This strip is starting to resemble Fearless Fosdick (Lil’ Abner’s “ideal”) in having two totally different story lines at times.
