I did that when they PAINTED over some pine paneling in the living room of a house.To me, wood inside the home, be it paneling, cabinet doors, wood trim, etc… should be stained. They IMHO should NEVER be painted over.
Same thing happened to me. He didn’t even bother to quote the work I wanted done when I told him I know the current fad is darker wood but I like the oak look.
As much as I enjoyed Home Time back in the day I still blanched at the start of several of their renovations. I kept thinking how I’d love to live in the house Dean and his female partner were trashing. They always looked good when done but when I thought of what was destroyed to get that result..!

Some majestic trees had to die for those cabinets to exist. Wood is more beautiful when it’s on the hoof.
