No! No! No! Bad parent! From about third grade on, my father constantly pounded into my head that anything short of perfection was failure. If I got a 98 on a test, the first words out of his mouth would be, “Why didn’t you get 100?” An A would bring “Why not A+?”. And then there was Mom. Always telling me it was my job to be a role model to my younger brother and sister. Great stuff to tell an eight-year-old. No pressure. If I did anything “childish”, mom would go ballistic on me. Just what a third grader needs. Relentless pressure and constant criticism. Made my childhood a nightmare. Thanks for letting me vent.

My children know that they are expected to strive for A’s but we are proud as long as they do their best.
