A couple decades ago, Honda marketed five models that got over 50 mpg, and that EPA objective is not every vehicle model, but an average across all models in a line. Honda’s initial hybrids also got better mileage than the current ones, in actual driving by Forest Service employees in the “real world”. Throw in some electrics for in city driving, or plug in hybrids, and it’s doable now.

Barry would have us riding skateboards if he could, while he takes government jets for his 3 time a year, 5000 mile vacations.

Heaven FORBID that we reduce the fuel consumption of our cars. Wouldn’t it be HORRIBLE if we didn’t have to wait in line to fill up EACH direction of our daily commute?

Micheal: I think we’ve agreed before that fusion would be great if we could get it working. Hydro, solar, and wind indeed DO have their own environmental ’faults", as does nuke if not properly done.

My 67 Lotus got 35 mpg at 75 mph. It was gearing, aerodynamics, and weight/horsepower ratio. The 55mph speed limit caused a 30% INCREASE in fuel consumption in that car. Also CHP found that on I-5, the single car late night early morning fatal, single car accidents increased over 400% with the slower speed, and increased driving time and fatigue: CHP HATED the lower speed limit on freeways designed to be perfectly safe at over 100 mph! (Anyone driving in Europe knows that it’s the idiots holding traffic up that cause 99% of the accidents, the rare and occasional accident with a Ferrari or other high speed vehicle with an idiot driving, who doesn’t know what he’s doing, does get all the press over here though. Speed does NOT kill, never has, sitting on your couch you’re going thousands of miles per hour in fact, it’s always the sudden stop that kills, whether from 35 mph (over 95% of fatal accidents occur UNDER 35 mph!, or 25,000 mph (escape velocity).

cube : lightened vehicles, collapsing steering wheels, airbags, better tires, anti-lock brakes, traction control, seat belts, crush space in front and rear of vehicles, safety glass, vehicles are thousands of times safer than in the 1950’s. I’ve also been an EMT an in law enforcement and reported to those scenes, saying the “technicals” don’t make a difference just proves you once again haven’t a clue what you’re talking about.

Now when it comes to cell phones, in dash screens as distractions to drivers, automakers ARE going the other way to accommodate idiots who shouldn’t have drivers licenses in the first place, but without the technical improvements, our injuries and deaths would be twice what they are today.

Also of note: Republicans have gone beyond the bedroom, but not to the Garage, instead into women’s Uterus, vaginas, and Fallopian tubes, as “their rightful male property to control”.
