Too late. The dollar’s been broken for quite a while.

I can remember certain key prices over the years–like for a subway ride, a comic book, a pound of bananas, a slice of pizza–which tells me that Eno should count himself lucky to get back a nickel and a couple of pennies for his dollar.

I also remember when dimes and quarters were silver. And when the dollar bill was a silver certificate and not a Federal Reserve promise to print another dollar. And when Woolworth’s was a five-and-dime store; now the dollar stores are beginning to turn into “Five Below” stores.

Runar is right. The dollar has been broken for quite a while. Not just since the 1970s when Nixon removed the last link between the dollar and gold internationally. Not even since 1933 when FDR unconstitutionally made gold money illegal. I count it from 1913 when the Fed was created to control the money supply.

I’ll refrain from going on about past hyperinflations in Germany, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, China, etc. Don’t worry–our turn is coming.

Yes! All you have to do now is bring a bunch of quarters. Free money!
