Can you guarantee the ground hog will be fresh for the accompanying feast?
Randy B Premium Member almost 11 years ago
My Facebook “friends” try to do that to me all the time.

Two lines from two different old songs cross my mind at the same time. I hear Ray Price , singing “Welcome to my world, won’t you come on in” At the very same time a line from Hotel California (Eagles 1976) “You can check out any time you like ,but you can never leave”…..Enjoy your day!

That’s the thing about Danae: She’s clearly a very intelligent girl, but she’s so unfocused it’s laughable.
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr almost 11 years ago
Danae hasn’t taken into consideration that most districts add on days at the end of the school year to make up for time lost to holidays and “snow days” (which, according to my weather maps, she ought to be experiencing right now).Would you prefer to spend more time with Miz. McGarry on a Spring day, Danae?

It usually takes a while for the penny to drop followed by the double-take.

Actually she seems EXACTLY the type that the CIA recruiters are looking for . . . Pity the intelligence world.

Danae’s sign reminds me of the big brew-ha over the St. Patrick’s day parade in NYC. The gays wanted to march with gay pride signs and banners, but the organizers said “no problem marching but no signs as the parade is about the Irish”. Stupid new mayor of NYC now says he wouldn’t be marching in the parade.

-Nice hatchet job, Gov’nor-Here’s a few facts. From the website set up at the command of Florida’s Supreme Commandant, Herr Scott Van Hater, which lists individual state employees and their salaries, we find several ‘Driver license examiners’ who are listed not only by name, but by year of hire.-The one who was hired in 1977 had an annual pay of $30,110.40. (Let’s not overlook that 40 cents, now,) The one hired in 2010 was paid a whopping $26,314.20.
Meanwhile, the average salary paid to a Florida teacher (given the fact that actual salaries vary by school district, number of years in the job and degrees completed) was $45,723 during the 2010-2011 school year.
-Herr Scott Van Hater is now running for re-election and he discovered that, while the anti public school and anti tax crowd was delighted with the way he slashed the state share of public school budgets, this group of voters called ‘parents’ was not. So, suddenly, he’s up in the Legislature’s face about raising the money that goes from state to school districts, and even (gasp) forcing school districts to give teachers some raises.

-First this whole “prediction” thing based upon a woodchuck male looking to see if it is ready to wake the female to find food is all the reason the male awakens out of hibernation first. If it is still covered in snow it goes back to wait. If not it scurries to find the female and wake her out of it to start looking for food. That is all.
-I know you posted this hours ago, but I’m playing catchup with posts during my late afternoon lunch break.-Ok, I was born and raised in Pgh and we cut our teeth on the ‘Pennsylvania Dutch’ traditions. Here’s some of the history we learned.
-Delaware Indians settled the area now known as Punxsutawney, which is about 90 miles from Pittsburgh. The name ‘woodchuck’ is supposed to come from the native legend of ‘Wojak, the groundhog’ considered to be an ancestral relative.-
When German settlers arrived in the 1700s, the brought their tradition of Candlemas day, which has an early origin in a pagan celebration at the midpoint between the winter solstice and spring. The belief was, if the weather on that day was fair, the second half of winter would be very bad. -Early Christians in Europe continued the tradition by putting lighted candles in each window, and the day’s weather was still important. If the sun came out on February 2 (halfway between winter and spring), six more weeks of winter.
-Earliest American references to Groundhog day are found at the PA Dutch Folklore Center at Franklin and Marshall College, in a diary kept by a storeowner: “Last Tuesday, the 2nd, was Candlemas day, the day on which, according to the Germans, the Groundhog peeps out of his winter quarters and if he sees his shadow he pops back in for another six weeks nap, but if the day be cloudy he remains out, as the weather is to be moderate.”-PA’s first official celebration of Groundhog day began with February 2, 1886.-This info and more was copyrighted by STORMFAX, Inc., but a lot of it appears on the official website for Punxsutawney Phil.

You do know that the groundhog predicted more winter because the mayor dropped him, right?

.neeeurothrush, thank you! I didn’t get masterskrain’s post at first…I thought it was just one of those cases of posting too many times by mistake! …..Doh!.
.And, meh-thedology is absolutely correct…She can’t get away from the number of hours in school, that’s mandated by law..If you miss days, you can either add time to the day, or extend the school year…It doesn’t matter as long as you teach those little creatures the full number of hours..
.But at her age she’ll take the time off and worry about the consequences later…That’s what I would do and I’m 61…
.Quite frankly, here in Michigan, if this weather keeps up, schools may well either be holding classes until July, or until 7:15 in the evening. The choice is theirs…..Hey Shirley! I jest!

Well, I’m not lazy, I’m just useless. It’s a whole different mindset. Danae is on the right track.

Danae having that sign up ( in panel 3) proves that she is a Bigot. Against anyone who doesn’t agree with her.
