I don’t know if any of that is “really hard work”. Landscaping is hard work. Roofing is hard work. Librarian is nice, noble, important work, but not that hard. Maybe the newspaper column ins hard work, I’ll give her that!

When this strip first ran, in my local, I was the (volunteer) second man in a two man Boy’s Club, occasionally getting minimum wage from grants. Her job description was a lot like mine, I coached 4 sports, refereed the games, ran Middle School dances, office work, afterschool activities, wrote our weekly newspaper column (how I started at the office),etc.
Librarians have to get a Master’s degree in Library Science before they can begin to look for a librarian’s job. Sure, they have fun (who wouldn’t with thousands of books?!), but, as Elly so inadvertently pointed out, it can also be a Lot of work, too. Fun work, but still work… ;)
People have freedom of speech to post whatever comments they wish to make. There is no test of popularity. The gentleman was likely commenting on the fact that Elly can be a real nag around the house and unpleasant at times, and that has been a fact. I have seen many cases where people behave differently at home and at work. I was stationed with Marines who were hardnosed on the job and did not hestitate to give underperformers a buttchewing if they needed it. Yet at home they were relaxed, realizing small children cannot be disciplined the same way as 20-something junior enlisted. In Elly’s case it appears she is nice and humble at work yet can become short-fused at home. John has been shown to be somewhat messy at home (but not to the extent of Michael’s pig pen) whereas he keeps his office in good working order to show his seriousness to his patients.

More work then I since I’m unemployed. Hubby used to work aircraft hot job and retired from it after 36 years. I wished longer but he chose early.
