It’s too good a story to tell just once.

That used to drive me up the wall. And yes, I’m starting to do it.

There’s one consolation: The people I repeat these stories to think it’s the first time they’ve heard it, so it’s all good.

It’s not the repeated telling – it’s the remembering of whom you told it to.

It’s not a matter of memory, one just runs out of stories so they are re-run. …kinda like Firefly episodes.

I stopped repeating the same stories over and over again when I began to realize that I couldn’t remember the endings.

I don’t mind the same old stories, it’s the forgetting to tell me what’s happening lately because Grandma told my cousin 3 times in the same conversation. .The winter is always worse becasue they can’t get out of their house as often so they don’t go to the Y or the library and those both seem to help….

Repetition is the way oral histories are taught to the next generation. That’s how the details get worked into the plot. Until Nelson has heard it enough times, he won’t be able to repeat it fully…and that is what he needs to learn, so he can pass it along to the next generations.

Yes, he lives next door. He’s also their grandson and they babysit him while his parents work.
