June: Bye! I met someone in the restroom whose aunt was born in the same town as my great-grandmother! Isn't that amazing??
Ralph: What's amazing is that you can strike up conversations in the restroom!
June: Her cat's birthday is April 29th!

There are also guys in the restrooms who do not mind their own business, but I do not hang with them. Never understood the need to converse, while taking care of business.

Vonnegut called these sorts of “relationships by meaningless co-inccidences of association” Granfaloons, I believe. One of his favorites examples was “Hoosiers.”

I’m amazed at the amount of people who won’t even look at each other while riding an elevator! Why not say something nice while you are so close together?

I strike up conversations with people in checkout lanes and other places in the store if we’re both looking at the same thing but never have that I can remember in a washroom.

Husband has explained it to me that when everyone is standing around with everything out, no one talks to anyone.
Also ladies rooms are, or at least were, setup more sociable. There is sometimes a seating area for one to rest (or breast feed). When I was in college a group of us had been working on a messy project, way after hours and were about the only ones left in the student center. We went to clean up and, just not to break up the camaraderie of the day we all went to the ladies room. The guys were amazed at the difference and the seating area and how much nicer it was in general. (Of course then the security guard came by and even though he was a friend and we were all just washing up, he threaten to have the guys arrested and we all left.)
