You can be eccentric if you are wealthy. If you’re poor, you’re merely crazy.

Again with another “uncle”. Is this the one who left Trout’s mother with dirty socks and all her loose change gone?

I once – once! – went to a doctor for chronic diarrhea. (I know -TMI) and the medical questionnaire I had to fill out, in addition to the usual “do any of your relatives have HTN”, etc. actually asked if insanity ran in my family. What THAT had to do with the problem was beyond me. I put down No. It doesn’t run in my family; it gallops!

Trout (or her mother) has an endless supply of uncles.

The idea is that those who are crazy will be considered merely eccentric if rich or famous enough.

A Gadabout and an Eccentric. They go together like milk & cookies. Saddle & horse. Bees & Flowers. And Bacon & Eggs. .Eccentrics don’t need to worry about money. If alone, people take pity on them and will give them food and clothing. Otherwise – they team up with Gadabouts. .Gadabouts always have money. I think it finds them.
