I can sew a button back on.I can fix a blown hem in pants. I can even sew a sheet back together.I just can’t get the damn thread through the censored needle in a short time.
Was raised to be a bachelor. Mom made sure that I: 1) I knew how to do laundry(back when there was no ‘cold water detergent); 2) Knew how to iron clothes correctly without ’scorching’ the material ; 3) Sewing, including ‘darning shocks’, sewing buttons and making minor repairs in shirts and pants; 4) So that I would never go hungry, she taught me how to cook(although she didn’t bother to tell me how to get everything to come out together).
Reminds me of my grandmother who was born in 1883 and lost her mother at age 9. She decided one day that she wanted a new dress so she went up to the attic and got the sewing machine, used an old dress taken apart for a pattern and proceeded to make a new dress. No doubt it was something similar to what this child just did but her father bragged on her and she eventually became an expert seamstress….even made a living out of it.
I had Lynn’s problem, that is my sewing box fell apart. Solution? I bought a big tackle box and put my sewing gear in it. It fits nicely on a closet shelf, and everything I need is handy.

As a male at age almost 30, I asked for a sewing kit a few Christmases ago and sometimes I have difficulty.

I would say that for a child her age she certainly demonstrates a lot of dexterity.

For those with difficulty threading the needle there is a needle with an open eye at the top – just slide the thread in. Good for small jobs.

@Vice Admiral AllanThere are sewing kits that come with the needles already threaded. Relieves alot of frustration.

Liz is how old? Kindergarteners can barely handle scissors, let alone thread a needle, and Liz doesn’t go to school yet.
