The only virtue of war is it settles things that cannot be settled any other way – it is not fair, it just settles them. WWI is an excellent example. According to The Guns of Autumn one of the commanding generals was asked what caused the war. He answered “If only we knew.” Everybody could see it coming but nobody really knows why, even today. I have seen dozens of bogus explanations but none that really fit. Unfortunately it ended in armistice, which means nothing was settled. The same is true of Korea. There must be defeat to make war work.
