Rose: Hello? Oh, hi, Pam! Well, yes...Jimbo mentioned that he ran into one of my book club friends! Of course he knows your name, Pam! No...I can't explain why he pretended to have a mouthful of food.
Jimbo: If that's Pam...say "Hi"!
I’m sorry, I feel for Jimbo on this one. I do training and I teach part-time, and I have come in contact with so many people that I can’t remember names. I’ve lived in other cities and states and when I’m in my home town people I went to high school with will see me—I recognize the face but have no idea what their name is. Heck, I go to church every Sunday and half the time I can’t remember the people’s names there—I only come into contact with them once a week for a brief time.
I can relate, I am terrible with names. I’ve forgotten the names of people I work with. Good thing we wear name badges. But if I see them when they’re off the clock, I’m screwed.
I have a great memory for faces. Names, not so much. So long ago I simply dropped everyone’s name using generic pet names instead: young man (even/esp with the elderly), young lady, little miss, sir, ma’am, etc. Sweet little old ladies get the Sweetie, Pretty Lady, Sunshine stuff. As a nurse this saves me a lot of grief when I see these folks later outside the hospital. They come up to me, “Remember me? I’m Sweetie!”
I’m a big fan of calling people Sweetie myself or Honey or Darlin’ occasionally. I remember all kinds of details about conversations that we’ve had over the years, but I just can’t remember their names.
I gotcha all beat. My family was at a cousins wedding. We three sons were in our 30s, mom was around 55, I guess. She started talking to a young man about the wedding, how nice it was, etc. Then asked, " Which side are you on?"

That’s the nice thing about old age – you can get away with calling everybody ‘Dear’.

Reply; “Mom, it’s me. Your son.”

I haven’t seen any of them do the potato bug in a long time. I wonder if Brady & Wimmer forgot that the family does it occasionally.

Pam seems like a busybody. Pam should socialize more or pick up some new hobbies.

I have trouble keeping names straight. It’s embarrassing because I always feel it’s disrespectful not to remember someone’s name.
