Two sure things. Ever hear “death OR taxes”? His estate will be much the poorer after inheritance taxes, funeral expenses (isn’t there a tax on a coffin? and its real estate?), and probably more.

Only two things are certain, death and taxes. (… and the death tax)

@RadarReconYou can not take it with you, No one I know cares about what happens to their “Estate” after they die. In reality it becomes “Somebody Else’s Problem”.

If the survivors wanted to save money they would have ordered the crispy chicken menu and skipped the eternal cost of ground care for the deceased and all the frills and extras.

Other side of tombstone: “And by ‘not pay taxes’, I mean that I’m not the one doing the paperwork. Can’t comment on the state of my estate, though.”

@ RWJAMES: What I would have said, except that I would have added “or hateful”.

I may share some of the opinions that “conservatives” spout, but I’m sick to death of hearing all the hatred that they’ve been spewing about “liberals” since 2000.

Any “reality-check” tax should be assessed againstALL political parties.

There are plenty of dead beat wealthy that have also never paid taxes. They are supported by some members of Congress. Wanna guess….

We told the kids we want to be toast in a cardboard box, minimum packaging for the crematorium. They can do what they want with the ashes, compost, for all we care, but isn’t this whole death business for the living, anyway?

Ancient Greeks buried their dead with a coin in their mouths, so they could pay the toll to cross the River Styx. Otherwise, the belief apparently was that the soul would wander in some kind of limbo forever. So maybe you don’t have to pay taxes, but you may have to pay tolls, and not just to trolls…-Kind of defeats the belief that you ’can’t take it with you’….

After (barely) surviving stomach cancer and learning I still only have an estimated eight years left to live I put my affairs in order, which included estate planning. The government is likely to get a couple thousand at most out of my estate tax (“death tax”), leaving my family a sizable amount in savings the politicos can’t legally touch. And no social security payouts they can go after; I won’t be eligible at the age I’ll be lucky to hit and I can keep working via telecommuting until I’m literally on my deathbed and too sick to survive.

Salinasong: I will be 81 in 11 days and I can take it back to just before I was born. A bunch of WW-I war profiteers were attacking FDR for being a “traitor to his class” when they weren’t even in his class. Rosevelts got their money when it was still Niew Amsterdam and noblesse oblige still had some influence on old money.
