My young teenaged cousin used to refuse to sleep upstairs at our grandparents house because he was afraid of ghosts. Nothing anyone told him about “no such thing” would change his mind. He and I sat down one afternoon and I told him that ghosts only haunt places that either meant something to them or where they died. Since our grandparents had built that house, and we were certain no one had died there, there was no logical reason for it to be haunted. He never had a problem with sleeping upstairs again. (Oh, dear. That was about 35 years ago!)

I would have though that Dean would have been more likely to believe in the house being haunted, especially given his imaginative flights, of which Heart is consistently scornful. But sometimes people do suddenly step out of character; the ‘practical’ ones suddenly become ‘impractical,’ or vice versa.
