The simplest thing to do, when they are that size, is to pick up the puppy and reclaim the seat. The place the puppy back on your lap to let it finish its nap. Enjoy while you can.
I’ve a fond memory of reaching over a sleeping Pit Bull to put more wood in the stove. She grumbled but moved over. In the morning, I realized she’d wriggled her way into the sleeping bag with me. Good Dog! :-)
Newsflash, Dad: There’s the other side of the couch, in case you hadn’t noticed. But if you really want your original spot, just sit on the opposite side for a while, which will warm it up, and then get up so Sophie can steal that spot. Voila! You can now reclaim the side on which you first sat. Now how hard was that?

My dog Penny always lies on our clothing if we leave it on the floor. Now we make a point of leaving a few items out for her to make a nest out of.
