Tiffany: "Mr. Fogarty, to celebrate your retirement, we all wrote down a memory of you as our teacher. Here's mine" Mr. Fogarty: "Tiffany, read your detailed essay about what you did over the weekend" Tiffany: "Okee dokee" Tiffany: "This weekend I bought a dress with hundreds and hundreds of little beads and tiny sequins on it" Tiffany: "Is that enough detail?"

A bit of a lame assignment, I think… ;)

I think… that little card attached to Fogarty’s forehead says…. Yep… it says: “E Pluribus Oops!”… or does it say “E Pluribus Oh no you did-n’t!” ?…..

I wonder what was Knute’s essay on that same topic was that long, long ago.
JayBluE over 10 years ago
Knowing Knute, it’s probably just a picture of a calendar… – Could also have been a picture of a bed… a picture equals thousand words that he’d rather not read…

At least each student’s memory of Fogarty will be different and interesting… ;)

To me, it doesn’t matter whether Fogarty made a difference in the students lives or if they appreciate him. He’s been shown to be mediocre at best, but I’m sure that can be retconned if Evans desires. What made me dislike Fogarty was that he hated his job for the past 30 years (“not a day has gone by that I didn’t wish I were any place but here”). He doesn’t seem to like his students.
He’s being portrayed as a sad, lonely man who only has his job in his life, and he hates his job and the people (students) he works with. And one banner and a small party is going to change his outlook on life?

Good of you to lead off in this farewell for Mr. Fogarty that you likely organized, Tiffany. You are earning yourself a lot of points today (even if your essay was not so hot)….

Crystal is a later character, who transferred to the school at a later date…and looked distinctly different from what she does now.

Another BORING week of Fogarty flashbacks, somebody shoot me

Obviously, that wasn’t quite what Mr. Fogarty meant!
rickray777 over 10 years ago
Personally, my favorite memory was when Luann described a midsummer night’s dream as one where a giant flower was eating her head, or something; and she finds that Mr. Fogarty meant the play by Shakespeare!

“And???” – Mr. Fogart
SactoSylvia over 10 years ago
Most high schoolers know very little about their teachers’ lives outside of school, just as we know very little about the lives of many of the people in this strip outside of their interactions with Luann. We know Mr. Fogarty is (or was) somewhat inept in the romance department, but there could still be more to him and his life than what we (and/or his students) get to see.

I was thinking about the strip this morning and hoping they’d write their favorite memories for him. There must be a lot of positive ones, as he has apparently taught them everything but math.*And look! One is going to an Ivy League school, several are going to the University— so they must have learned a lot from old Fogarty.*And an awful thought— you don’t suppose Mr. Evans was preparing us in case the surgery did not go well. He may have planned this as his potential “farewell” arc.*Sure hpe the surgery DID go well! And that he’s recovering nicely!

I bought it at my favorite boutique in London where my father flew me to and back in our little pink airplane that he bought in Hawaii last month. My dress is emerald green, and I will wear it to my cousin’s wedding on June 21st. I hope I don’t outdo her bridal gown or her hairdo, but I know it will be close.

Here, I’ll even repost it!
Important alert from Luann’s Facebook page:
“Did you know most cartoonists work 6-8 weeks ahead of publication? With my dad scheduled for surgery and graduation looming for the characters, the Fogarty Flashbacks allowed us to: 1. Highlight Fogarty and life at Pitts high school before Graduation 2. Introduce readers to the www.gocomics.com archives where fans enjoy browsing past storylines. 3. Give my dad a break from full-time illustrations after surgery (he’s fully recovered now )
Enjoy this final week which will link to some memorable full story arcs….and then, on to Graduation! ~Karen Evans (Greg’s daughter)”
Quoted directly from Greg’s FB page… – Although I don’t think this would assuage ReallyBad… – For many, they express dislike for this arc, but still speak of liking other ones… from his expressions, it would seem that any arc has not suited him…

For those who don’t think that these flashbacks are for anything positive, this is the “Tag Question” from here, on the Luann page:
“Tiffany as matchmaker? Read the whole storyline at today’s Fogarty Flashback link www.luanncomic.com” . – This basically gives Greg a chance to show that Fogarty and Phelps got a chance to date, thanks to a mutual discussion over Tiffany’s school file and this essay……. a definite positive highlight shown thus, in Fogarty’s (and Phelps’) life….. so therefore, this is the point of Tiffany’s memory here….

Were the sequins sequential? What color?Any patterns involved?Dress length? Style of dress?Size?Store?Price?Accessories??Come on, my beloved Tiffany, more details and let us know if it was intended as a social commentary regarding the final emergence of the third world nations and balance of trade or a BUY AMERICAN political statement.

This surprise took too long coming. It should have been at least one week earlier. Judging by the number of comments people are loosing interest. The prom should have been longer, and the teacher retiring shorter.
