Well, Annie was fixated on being the perfect stay-at-home wife and mother, so of course she would freak over anybody seeing her house not perfectly clean.Wait until you see her freak out when her next baby isn’t perfect.

Yes, I certainly hope Elly and John have learned something from this!

Lynn’s Notes:This idea came from a situation in which a friend’s house was broken into, and she was upset that the police had seen her unwashed dishes and her unmade bed. I remember thinking: Like wearing good underwear in case of an emergency, you should keep your house tidy in case it’s robbed!

When our kids were little, we came home from a shopping trip one day and were shocked. we couldn’t decide if our house had been ransacked or we had left it that way. Turned out to be toddler damage.

I have had “friends” like Annie. All you do is give and they just take-take-take, and never appreciate anything.

Funny story about that whole “always wear good underwear” maxim. Last year I had a crazy busy work schedule and hadn’t done laundry. All my good underwear was in the dryer, so I dug around in the drawer and found one pair of undies with a hole—I was in a hurry because I had to go to a client’s office. On the way home I started having chest pains and went to the ER. (Fortunately everything was OK.) But when I called my husband after I told him where I was, my next instruction was “Bring me my phone charger and a good pair of undies from the dryer!”

Good fences make good neighbors. Perhaps an imaginary one should be erected to forestall anything like this happening again.

P.S. Also, notice how she didn’t even ask about John or his tangle with the police? Love these self-involved people…
