1 of the grade schools here is a bit different. They have trimesters. Instead of 3 months off all at once they have a little over 3 weeks 3 different times a year. They have found that the kids forget less, the overall GPA has increased and the parents have stated that it’s easier on them to find sitters or farm the kids out to family or plan vacations. Sometimes you have to think outside the box.

This is getting weird…

Oh and what is summer vacation time. There are some of us do not have the extra income and do not know what like to get away. Home day after day after day turns into month after month of not going anywhere.

I’ve looked at the Common Core, and it is actually pretty standard stuff. I’m sure it needs tweaked (and simplified!), but it is incredibly useful to have students transferring between states cover the same subjects in the same grades. The way things are now, you end up with kids covering the same subject twice and missing other subjects completely if they move.

But let us not forget how folks at the time were griping about how bad education had gotten..I remember in one of Asimov’s 1940s stories he griped at what a poor job the schools were doing of educating.
