Bug Blog by Cuco Rocha Cosmosquake On the TV show "Cosmos," Neil deGrasse Tyson actually said that science can explain the cause of earthquakes. Wacky preachers are lining up to demand equal time for the "gays and liberals cause earthquakes" theory.

Uhhhhh, I was going to ask “where’s the point” when it finally dawned on me…earthquakes + gays + liberals = Revelation… ;)

Wacky preacher = Pat Robertson.

Hmmmmm, it seems to me that “wacky preacher” is redundant…

Not sure what the immediate catalyst is, but there have been several news reports over the years of preachers blaming a variety of natural disasters on gays – divine retribution and all. It is not, however, correct to lump all preachers in that category, and those who do are no more discerning than the fundamentalists who claim all non-Christians will burn in hell. Many, many Christian preachers embrace science, including but not limited to the Big Bang and evolution. They fit in very nicely with our faith. In fact, many scientists are people of faith as well and see no contradiction.

I think that’s why he used the word “Whacky” to sub-categorize.

Gods of old used to be relegated to primordial times. How can people in the 21st century believe in religions derived from the Hebrew Bible (the Torah) that postulates an immanent and interventionist god in historical times (the late Iron Age)? Christians compound the idiocy with an incarnated god also in historical times when very legible script existed yet none are to be found of this (mythical) event. Death and resurrection by zombie gods is a very old tradition though.@indiethink. Why don’t you go troll Limbaugh?

Why do they thank God for sparing half the congregation when it was God who killed the other half?
(Considering how many jabs at fundamentalist religion NdGT makes, I’m surprised it is Fox networks that carry his show. The Right will someday have to decide if it can include both us atheists and the crypto-theocratic wing.)
