I still own over 500 vinyl albums and almost as many old 45’s. Of course, I’ve transcribed them to digital, but still, I sometimes like to listen to the rich tones of analog vinyl.
I have a working 8-track player/recorder. “Yes”, if I could locate a blank tape I could record my vinyl over to 8-track tape and enjoy “track bleed” as it was meant to be heard.
Yes! And liner notes and lyrics! And inserts with additional photos! Sometimes a poster! Creativity and thought went into the ordering of the songs on an album and also into the cover artwork. The album cover art on the front, back, inside gatefold and album sleeves was elaborate ….. there was nothing like opening a new album, putting the vinyl on the turntable and listening through headphones while perusing the liner notes. Weed optional.
I bought my husband a new turntable a few years ago. We buy a lot of albums. Now, you not only get the vinyl and all that is great about them, as Surf Pirate pointed out, but you also get a digital copy of the music. The best of both worlds!!!
Look for turntables, preamps and amps at garage sales. You can buy new, but for the best experience, old, analog tube equipment is the best. You can purchase a USB turntable, or probably get an adapter to convert conventional magnetic cartridge turntable outputs to USB.Blank 8-track tapes are available all over the web, and for lower quality, you could just get an old 8-track, erase it with a demagnetizer, and record over it. Keep your 8-track heads clean, and be careful not to get alcohol on the pinchwheel that drives the tape. Belts are also online, and one of the easiest things to fix on an 8-track player-recorder.I lost so much in a fire. Yeh, I was experienced!JusSayin
Haven’t listened to my vinyl records since I copied some to CDs—-but by no means all of them got copied. (Besides, it was the only way I could get Side 2 of “Abbey Road” as one continuous track.)

A record is kind of hard to accidentally drop in the toilet. And no one’s going to run by and snatch your turntable.

I miss the great artwork that used to grace the album covers.

I’ve got vinyls, ranging from 40’s bing crosby to 80’s Yes, Ratt and Scorpion. Vinyls are way cooler than ipods.

I’ll take a Jimmy Buffett vinyl album ( use the, ‘zoom’ function ) over a Donna Summer MP3 any time.

Living in FL, I am interested to see where this strip goes. I hope Graham Nolan does not forget the great NW FL Panhandle.
