So in addition to getting her hair done instead of going home to be with her son, she has also gone shopping for a new wardrobe?! I can appreciate wanting to feel better about yourself, but surely a mother ought to have her priorities in order, and hair stylists and clothing stores are hardly isolated to Montreal. As I said last week, had she waited until she returned to Milborough before getting the makeover, she might have had a bit more time to think about whether or not she really wanted to look like Ronald McDonald’s slightly deranged sister.

The outfit is nice and hair grows out. I’m sure it was very stylish when this strip first came out. Although the Ronald McDonald comment was funny, it’s just a pile-on at this point.

Steve, if you are talking about the comments, you are right. unfortunately, that seems to be the standard here.

    @pearlandpeach

you said it. I still remember this strip being the first one I read way back when I was Ellie’s age and had two little ones the same age as Michael and Elizabeth. I truly enjoyed it and still do. That so many here just have to pile on like it’s real life and they are so more mature astounds me.

Ever notice that when you look at some real life makeovers done on women (TV, magazines), lots of times the “before” looks better than the “after”?

I agree Steve and Pearl. Pearl is right tho. Connie is always made to look bad, especially in the comments section. Only a comic!!

Where does Connie get money to splurge on a makeover anyway?

If that cost a million bucks, or over ten, I’d sue.

Doesn’t matter how she ends up looking, new confidence is what makes her look best. I’ve had so many male friends tell me a confident woman is sexy! And ok folks she’s going a little nuts. Not uncommon. Cut her some slack.

Phil never lead Connie on. She’s just a delusional loon… who now has to live with an ugly afro. At least the afro makes her look somewhat related to Lawrence now.

Summerdog is right. One of our morning news stations does Monday makeovers. All the women end up with the same horrible, chopped up, Kate Goslin head. That haircut looks like someone who really hated her did it out of revenge. When I wrote in that the women looked better before, and they needed a new salon that had some talent, and knew more than one haircut, and had the made over women ever seen what the makeovers look like before they agreed to it, they laid into me with the most foul mouthed e-mail, just like the people here do. “How dare you deny people the opportunity to feel better about themselves, blah blah.” When all I said was they all end up looking exactly the same, and all of them worse than when they came in. None of them look like they feel better about themselves while they’re stitting there either, they look like they’re fighting back tears. (It’s the same awful haircut that the obese “stylist” gave herself too.) Connie should be suing, not paying for it.

Even I feel sorry for her. Her comment to Lawrence did NOT relay “confidence” at all.

Did anyone notice that every day brings a new bunch of PC whiners? If you want froofy doofy comments that have no purpose or substance, go to Love Is. This is the wrong place for your overly sensitive selves.

I’m with Steve, Pearlandpeach, and Shelby: the overwhelmingly harsh comments to a comic strip tells you just how hard people have it in actual life. Support is in short supply in the world. I love the empathy Johnston portrays in her characters. I wished she’d not retire at a time like this.

So it’s mean spirited to make comments criticizing mean spirited comments?

    I think I’m getting dizzy!

So what’s she gonna do, brag that she spent megabucks to look like this? Why else would she say don’t ask what it costs? She’s dying to tell her!

Sorry but external makeovers only last a short while, far more useful to work on the internal self.

OMG!!!!! It’s a COMIC STRIP - a RECYCLED COMIC STRIP!!!! One woman’s fictionalized, four-panel snapshot of her life over 2 decades ago!!!!! It’s meant to briefly entertain, not cause a discussion worthy of English Lit 101, let alone name-calling and inter-personal bashing!! There are plenty of REAL issues to debate other places on the ‘net!!! Go find them!

The empathy portrayed between characters in the strip is in direct contrast to the venomous comments in this section. I remember this strip as being fairly innocent and fun to read, but others obviously do not see anything innocent or fun here – just characters to hate. Tis a sad commentary on life in America and how it has changed since the strip aired the first time around.

A brawl is fomenting. rtt470: why are you wasting your time commenting on a comic if there are REAL issues?

lindz.coop; your comment is right on.

And Ophelia, give yourself a shake!! What exactly was mean spirited about my comment?

P.S. I am fun to live with, Opie: “A Priest, a Rabbi, and a Minister walk into this bar. The bartender says, Is this a joke?”

Sorry I took so long to answer this, but I was involved in real issues. Sudoku, crossward, etc. Ta-ta
