    He ought to start with miso soup and maybe sukiyaki. Those are more like staple Japanese foods. (But they aren’t as funny as feeding the kid sushi.)

    Sushi if fine as long as it’s well done (deep fried sounds good).

    Sushi is actually flavored rice balls. They wouldn’t deep fry very well. Y’all are thinking of sashimi (raw fish). (Six years of in-country experience speaking here.)
