Of course the primary reference is to her book, but there is also an underlying allusion to the idea that the soul is trapped inside the body and only released at death. This idea can be found in Plato, and it’s common in gnostic thought generally. In my opinion (not that anyone will care) it’s totally wrong.

My first thought is this symbolizes from fear to freedom. (but several of the customer book reviews that I’ve read are indicative of an Angry bird).
