Darn, thinks Albert, there goes that flying elbow again. Al, I know you find the love seat romantic, but when you are just reading the Ballard Gazette and Gossip, I think you need to find a different seat.
Stel has created a poster for the new basset movie. What a cast! Look at those three dreamy bassets! Looks like it involves Basset Island. I can’t wait till it shows up in the Ballard Cinerama!
The human version has fallen into well-deserved obscurity, relegated to late night TV on channels nobody watches, except underemployed cartoonists. Their poster is here:
I’ve been drifting off… it’s appropriate that I landed on beautiful Basset Island…. or, I should say, Yappa Nui…
with its dreamy basset monoliths under the arching Milkbony Way.
Stelbel has created a lovely picture of it…
I have to confess, though, I’d never heard of the films, basset or human…. I mean, how could I have missed a big star (cough) like Sandy Howls?
I’m thinking this must be a revival… how could the human version have come first?
They always seem to copy the basset films… they’re so much less creative than the dogs.
Stronger, too… just compare the posters… it seems to be taking a crowd of humans to accomplish what two bassets are doing in the canine version.
Also, this poster shows a giant stone basset head, on top of a massive wooden post… either placed there, or having been excavated already attached to it.
Stel does meticulous research…
Had this movie come out recently, I’m sure she would have informed the producers that excavation in the 20-teens proved the heads to be, in fact, attached to giant buried basset torsos.
I suppose, though, they still would have been presented in whichever way best advances the plot.
In any case, Stel’s basset poster is dreamier and more idyllic… if I don’t watch out, I’ll drift away again.
Nice job, Stel!
I was going to say that before we went to see it, I’d research some Yappa Nui food, and maybe bring some appropriate snacks…
but I just did a quick peek, and saw that the early dogs subsisted mainly on yams and the particular island RATS.
I know Cathy’s claim to elbow autonomy rings false…
But I think I believe her…. cos I have to confess to a couple of halfway autonomous (not to be confused with semi-anonymous) arm joints of my own.
I think I have written here about my right wrist, which ever since a severe infection, and consequent surgical intervention, about 40 years ago, very occasionally displays a mind of its own.
Usually, it behaves in a totally quiet, if somewhat feeble, attempt to cede to my control.
But perhaps once every year or two, especially if I’m holding something slightly heavy, or awkwardly far from my body, with just that one hand, it’s been known to suddenly spasm, tremble violently, or otherwise try to wrest authority from me, and even fling whatever I’m grasping, with surprising force.
It has caused a couple of embarrassing moments with cups of coffee, and once a big plate of cookies.
And my right elbow, like Cathy’s, can lash out automatically….
but apparently unlike hers, it takes a specific trigger.
I’ve always had an extremely adverse reaction to being pinched or tickled at the sides of my waist… a move that adolescent boys, in particular, seem to think is funny.
I discovered in about 5th grade that someone sneaking up behind me to grab me there… not with a hug, but with fingertips, results in a hard gut punch from my elbow.
I swear I’ve never done it on purpose… it happens before I know it, a sort of reflex action… and I can’t catch it in time to stop it.
One time I did it to a friend’s father, which I’d never have done on purpose… though… hmm… thinking about that embarrassing incident with 21st century eyes…
perhaps a grown man shouldn’t have been creeping up behind a teenage girl in a bathing suit to pinch her.
Stel! What a beautiful poster! I’d go see the movie just because of the poster. But, sadly, it’s another one of the current movies I, too, have never heard of. And it doesn’t even look scary.
FYI …..Clevelandwood, like Hollywood, produces major blockbusters and award winners…………..and, sadly, also many, many little movies that no one has ever heard of.
YET, if nothing else, those little unheard of movies oftentimes have stunning ( stel -ar, if you will…) posters. So, from time to time, you may encounter movie posters here that you’ve never heard of. We must try, however, to promote those movies, too.
StelBel, in 2003, I took a trip around the world by private jet with 77 others. After taking off from Easter Island on the way to Samoa and upon reaching altitude, the inflight movie Rapa Nui started playing. This reminded me of that. Thanks!! (also, kudos again on the artwork, names, etc.).
After finishing the trip, I looked for a poster of it online. Both DennisinSeattle and Tigressy show the US version in their first C&C comments above. Here is the German version:
in which Kevin Costner pretty much has top billing (his name is larger than the others), whereas in the US version, he’s second from the last in the 3rd line of names at the bottom. I guess Costner was more popular in Germany in the 1990’s than here.

I’m a lefty as well. I always sit on the corner or on the end of the table so I have room for my flying elbow.

When my sister broke her right arm, she had to be a lefty. To avoid the battle for air space, I learned to switch hands too.

I’m sure that a whole island devoted to huge statues of bassets would be much more interesting than the human version.

Once again, an outstanding example of poster art by StelBel!
