All the best things in science end with an explosion, or Adam in a silly costume while Jamie strokes his large mustache and says “Well there’s your problem.”

A continuous series of contained explosions, also known as internal combustion, is what keeps the world on the move.

True story: There is a chicken recipe I made that required cooking at a very high oven temp in a very small amount of oil. As can be imagined, this was a smoky meal to make (but yummy.) One night we had three couples over for dinner and I made the chicken. I was in the living room with our guests when the smoke alarm went off. My husband went to deal with it and a few minutes later came into the living room with the oven door in his hand and smoke following him out of the kitchen and the alarm still squalling. He had too-enthusiastically opened the oven door, which was designed to lift off its hinges for cleaning, to check the chicken which I had allowed to go too long and came to ask for a hand in fitting it back on the hinges. Chicken was OK and it WAS a funny diversion.

Deep down, I kind of want most things to explode.
