One summer when I was a kid in our little suburb outside Chicago the GH truck would come around when I was at my girlfriend’s house, several blocks from my house. One evening she and I got ice cream, but I didn’t have my quarter on me. I asked the man (an “older” man probably younger than I am now) which way he was heading. He was heading toward my house, so I told him my street and asked him if I could pay him when he got there. He smiled and said “Sure.” He probably thought he’d never see his quarter. But I finished my ice cream and raced home and was standing waiting for him with my quarter when he went by. HIs smile was even bigger, and he and I had a regular routine after that. Yes, it was a different time.
For the truly slow, the sound of the icecream and other summertime treats took the wizard in his mind back to his youth.I saw one just the other day and also had happy memories.
