They’re called CBU (Cluster Bomb Units). There are dozens of varieties and they all have different patterns and different effects. As a Forward Air Controller, I had to keep tabs on all these types. Some you can use around friendlies, others not. The problem with them is that if they don’t all go off, then you leave something behind that the enemy can use against you, or someone else may accidentally stumble across later.
A few years ago Triscuits started getting smaller. They shrank for awhile, then the boxes started getting smaller. But, y’know what? The price stayed the same.
