Oh, for Pete’s sake. Johnston took this strip back to square one with a simplified drawing style, but she’s only re-drawing the old strips. I remember this one from 20 years ago—also the arc about John breaking in to the next-door neighbors’ house. This is where I get off; bye-bye, Lynn.
@comicsfanFrom yesterday: As the mother of a son, I respectfully disagree. Boys are naturally more boisterous and “earthy” than girls. As such, most mothers of boys that I know (including myself) needed a break from the rambunctiousness occasionally. We did not (and do not) hate our sons, we just let them be boys and encouraged them to play outside because it was healthy for them and easier on the furniture. Don’t assume that because you got locked out of your home means that all kids do. Your comment about mothers who love their sons never letting them out of sight was a bit misguided. You are thinking of “helicopter” moms who can’t stand to allow their children (even the adult ones) to experience normal childhood bumps and bruises.
As a mom of 3 boys, I understand that we have to let them use whatever language they need. Mine turned out OK and I let them run rats and snakes on my back sometimes (moms should not be scared). When their younger sister was born, I could blame the fright on her ;-)

It’s getting to be more of a challenge each day to keep track of all the haters that seem to materialize from who knows where…
