I think Arlo is responding to Luddy’s meow as though it were a critique of his pronunciation.

Sme people, like my sister-in-law, pronounce the “l”, which is wrong, because then you can’t do that joke: Knock. Knock.Who’s there?Salmon.Salmon who?Salmon Janet evening, you may meet a stranger…

Thank goodness somebody is saying it correctly! I am tired of people mispronouncing calm, palm, etc. with the ‘L’ sound. They sound like idiots.

The ‘T’ is silent, like the ‘P’ in swimming

Nope. Fourth wall things are when he is speaking to us. He is just speaking to the cat.

NDELLAPO, And while pronouncing calm kahlm may sound ignorant to those who only know it as kahm, the wrong one is being ignorant regarding acceptable pronunciations. We forgive you for you know not what you do.
