Their website makes this claim: "There are about 1,950 steam locomotives in the United States. About 250 of these are capable of running. At any given time, fewer than 100 can operate. Steamtown National Historic Site has three steam locomotives which can run.
Gasoline Alley was originally set in Tomah, Wisconsin. Milwaukee Road 261 is fully restored, and is only 3 hours up I-94 in Minneapolis/Saint Paul. www.261.com
I’m impressed with all this research by fellow Gasoline Alley fans. ~I would rather a cure by found in the next nine months, but I would like to see Jimmy have his wish, too.
Tip o’ the hat for recognizing 611 and getting the word out that she’s coming back. Check out her Facebook page @ Fire up 611 for more info. This is something many have wanted for a long time, and 2) to the 611 organization for posting today’s Gasoline Alley comic. I had forgotten how terrific the strip is…read it all the time as a kid….the artwork is great…keep up the good work…wish we had it here.

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad has a steam locomotive that is operating now! The same holds true for the Union Pacific Railroad.

There’s Engines #90 and #43 at the Nevada Northern Railway Museum in Ely, Nevada that are both running. In fact, #90 was recently restored.
