Once upon a time, there was a stingy old man who bought the fairy tale that all poor folks are poor because of credit card debt and ignored the reality of corporate downsizing and outsourcing as a source of the destruction of the middle class.

@DOSQueen: Dial your bitterness down a bit. He didn’t say any of that. It’s just a simple lesson about what living beyond your means causes, and one that every child should be taught. He said nothing about what causes all poverty.

“Can royalty go bankrupt?”.Of course they can, do and have.Spain went bankrupt several times while plundering central and south america.Europe is full of broke royalty. They used to like to marry into rich families for the wealth while the wealthy thought it would rzise the social status of their families.

And if the royal policies bankrupt the nation, they bankrupt the rulers with them..Royalty and nobility as heredity matters are simply silly mental fictions.

Feudalism requires loyalty to the feudal lord in exchange for the serfs, peons, peasants, slaves being protected by the lord..There is no evidence of either side of the equation developing unless we are talking about federal nanny-state growth but even there there is no sign of loyalty — government to dependants, dependant voters to particular party’s promises.
