That was the advantage of our move in the 5th grade for me. The whole upstairs (unfinished, but didn’t care) for myself. No more 3 to a room with my younger sisters.
moving was something my family did just about every year at least once from 1st grade to 10th grade…….I actually got to stay in one school for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. So moving is something that you get used to.
My Mom always handled “the move” when I was in school, and my dad at work – I got up in one bedroom in the morning and went to bed in another one in the evening. I never noticed the boxes or the chaos…
I think Lynn has given up updating certain aspects of the strips. Records? I’ve noticed others too in the past not changed. I prefer it this way, nice trip down nostalgic lane, and keep them simple reruns IMO.
Yep, guys; the difference between a house — real estate; and a home — the place YOU go to for (hopefully) all good things. It was fifty years ago this month when we moved away from “my” house, “my” town, and worst of all, my friends. It was just a little post-war town where people knew each other, and where my mother is buried. We were “movin’ on up”, but I still walk there in my dreams. And sometimes drive there in my car. Thought it was behind me. Finding out with this strip that while we may not live in the past, the past always lives in us.
It’s been a long time since my paper carried FBOFW. I’d forgotten how delightful it is. I’ll just have to add it to my list of favorites. (or should I say “favourites”?)

Yes, and it is rather sad, isn’t it Lawrence? Moving at your age is difficult…hopefully, there is a special room waiting for you in your new house… ;)

Amazing how one gets attached psychically to something that should be just space.

I always wished my parents would move when I was in elementary school — to get away from the bullies.

Except where “wait until she’s sixteen” became “wait until she’s older” a few days ago.
