I’ve always wondered about Jim’s little signature depiction of the characters’ hands. He nearly always has them gesturing or pointing, even when the dialogue wouldn’t necessarily call for it. I looked back at when he was doing Mutt and Jeff, and he was doing it back then too. Not a criticism, just an observation.
I certainly agree about the artwork and that’s one of things that’s made GA one of the classics that have entertained us for all these decades. Another example is Al Capp. I love reading Lil Abner and looking at all the amazing detail.
Why is there all this worry about driving in the rain? Did I miss something? This isn’t Chappaquiddick and Skeezix is no Ted Kennedy, thank goodness. He’s not been drinking, he’s not using his cellphone and he seems to be going at a reasonable rate of speed. The only thing they need to worry about is Rufus in the wagon in the dark. But they’re probably used to that by now. They should make it home safely ladies and gentlemen, have no fear.
We are ripe for a new story line. Who will be next?

That, my friends, is artwork done in the good old 20th century style– maybe even the 19th!– and I’m going to soak it in while I can…

Agreed about the detail both here and in L’ll Abner. I’m glad we can see them at a decent size again (thanks to the magic of the Internet)
