Hobbes: "What are you doing?" Calvin: "I'm practicing my sneers" Calvin: "There's nothing like a good seer to dry up conversation. How's mine look?" Hobbes: "Awful!" Calvin: "Thanks. With this sneer, I hope to be an unbearable burden at any social occasion" Hobbes: "That will give you a real head start on being a teen-ager" Calvin: "I know! It's like getting seven extra years!"

Don’t forget to memorize obscure personal information about the latest pop music sensation . Someone being a convicted abuser of bisexual animals is always a big conversation starter for a teen.

Adding time in Calvin’s case is like killing time it would seem. Adding by subtraction literally makes Calvin a kid for life…

Calvin is learning to do a sneer so that people at social occasions won’t pardon the expression.

The most insignificant people are the most apt to sneer at others. They are safe from reprisals. And have no hope of rising in their own self esteem but by lowering their neighbors.— William Hazlitt (1778-1830)

@LinusF: The very early Peanuts strips are a lot of fun, because Snoopy is still a “real” dog, but he doesn’t exactly act the way that you would expect a real dog to act. Similarly, in Calvin and Hobbes, Hobbes is a “real” stuffed tiger, but he doesn’t exactly act the way that you would expect a real stuffed tiger to act.I think that’s right………..Hmmmm………….

frank corona: Politics is for those who haven’t grown up? “We do not say he who is not involved in politics is minding his own business; we say he has no business here at all.” Pericles, in the part of the funeral oration contrasting the Athenian proto-democracy with the other surrounding city states.
